Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Funny story. When I read this originally I read it as "I heard he went to the judge and found many strange things." It only now, a couple of days later, that I see that the word is "jungle" not "judge".Alatar wrote:A lot of things happened to him, and it didn't seem to be in his speech. I heard he went to the jungle and found many strange things.
"Spirits in the shape of hawks and eagles flew ever to and from his halls; and their eyes could see to the depths of the seas, and pierce the hidden caverns beneath the world."

Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Does the "jungle" refer to the Old Forest?
Re: The Tolkien Translation Game!
Does the quote refer to any hobbit of buckland? From the times when they made a bonfire etc., I mean.

Farmer Maggot?
If there was anything that depressed him more than his own cynicism, it was that quite often it still wasn't as cynical as real life.

A lot goes on behind his round face that does not come out in his talk. I’ve heard that he used to go into the Old Forest at one time, and he has the reputation of knowing a good many strange things.
