Just a quick note to let people know that this thread now begins with yov's ranking post that was mentioned above, and that all of the other MCU-related posts since that post were also moved into this thread.

I am surprised no one has commented on the Marvel actors' contracts expiring.

My thoughts on it are although the contracts have run their course, this won't stop the actors from returning as free agents in new films for cameos or supporting roles, but we can expect the upcoming films will focus more on the actors who still have contracts.

I can imagine it. It would have been alarming if the ones that (see spoiler above) if those were the only ones whose contracts weren't renewed.

edit: Not renewed. If the only ones whose contracts were ending were the ones mentioned in previous spoiler, I mean.

I mean, if the ones with completed contracts were the ones chosen to be dissolved, then that would be fairly alarming.

i saw an article today that talked about how expensive it was for Marvel to hire big stars like Robert Downey. He even had his own personal chef when on set!

So, that is one good reason contracts have not been renewed, and Marvel is going to concentrate on its lesser known stars for the next batch of movies.

Also, it gives the ones who have been under contract a chance to explore new horizons.

It's a bad strategy, IMO, considering that without Downey's charisma and talent, the whole MCU thing might never have happened. What RDM has gotten paid is a pittance compared to the literal billions he's helped them earn.

I don't think it's primarily about money, given how Disney can Scrooge McDuck-dive into the pile of coins they made off these movies. They have always said that Avengers 4 would mark a change of guard in their heros.

It's a risky move, given how iconic RDJ and Evans are in their roles, and how central Iron Man and Cap are to the comic universe. And I'm really worried about what this means for the fate of the characters in Avengers 4.

So I caught up with Infinity War and to my surprise, I liked it quite a lot. Plotholes notwithstanding. Narratively it's kind of a mess, but the movie works mainly because of an antagonist as poignant as Thanos, great visuals and color palette, and that ending. (A part of me really wishes that

all those who died, stay dead and do not return for the sequel.
:P )

As it stands, my comic book ratings are as follows;

Logan
Batman Begins
Spider-Man 2
The Dark Knight
Guardians of the Galaxy
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Deadpool 2
Infinity War
X2
Iron Man
Civil War
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Avengers
Spider-Man
Ant Man
Deadpool
Wonder Woman
X-Men: First Class
Captain America
Black Panther*
Dr. Strange
X-Men
The Amazing Spider-Man
Age of Ultron
The Dark Knight Rises
Spider-Man 3
Thor: Ragnarok*
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
X-Men 3
Wolverine: Origins
Thor
Thor 2
Iron Man 2

I have yet to watch the new Ant-Man, Iron Man 3 and Spiderman. I have seen the Winter Soldier in bits and pieces so don't really have an opinion on it yet.

*I recently rewatched these and was surprised how poorly they held up on a rewatch. Especially Ragnarok (which would have been near the top if based on my first viewing.) The frequency of jokes and gags was very obviously noticeable, and not in a good way. The second time around, you see almost all of the jokes coming at you from far, to the point that it became annoying and I had to stop the movie midway. (However it does have some great visuals; such as the arena fight and the climactic battle. And I love me some Goldblum :D)
Black Panther just felt a little meh on my second watch. Plotholes, inconsistencies and a boring final fight. Love Killmonger though. I believe if the movie had been from his perspective (and handled with a little more subtlety), it would have been a damn beautiful tragedy.

You liked Deadpool 2 way more than I did (it was fine but forgettable imo) and Ragnarok way less (I actually liked it even more the 2nd time), but in general I'd say I can get behind that list. :)
(Though Raimi's first two Spidermans remain my top 2 in the genre.)

Marvel Moment of the day - Chris Evans live tweeting Obama's speech. Are we sure he's not the actual Steve Rogers?

Smaug, I'd be interested to hear how you like The Winter Soldier. IMO, it's the best MCU movie and my favorite comic book movie.

I expect to like it Frelga. Now, just have to make the time for it. :)

Yov, I forgot about the Raimi films! :P I've updated the list. I don't think the first Spiderman film has aged very well though.

The very first Spiderman movie with Tobey McGuire aired on TV last weekend. I found it quite watchable. I'd seen parts of it before, but while watching the beginning of it, realized I'd never seen the whole movie all the way through.

I think Tobey was well-cast. He looks just nerdy enough to still be a good Peter Parker without his glasses, yet is handsome enough that you can see a girl falling for him. I also liked that they showed M.J.'s life as far from perfect. Overall, it was a very strong cast. Even Jameson, the publisher of the Bugle fitted the part well. Heck, he even LOOKED exactly like his comic-book character

My list was only rating the MCU movies, so no Raimi.
