I also thought GoG2 was super fun. I was surprised by the generally meh reviews. I thought it was about as delightful as the first one, and in some ways better.

I think it was better, objectively. Less predictable, better paced, minor characters fleshed out and varied. It accomplished what Ant-man failed to do, IMHO - a madcap comic adventure with a side of feelings about family. Quill is still not equal to the MCU icons like Stark and Rogers, but he won't completely fade into the background when they meet in the Infinity War.

Also, fun previews. I really want to be excited for Wonder Woman, but Gal Gadot is just the least badass looking action hero ever. I miss Lucy Lawless as Xena, she really looked like she could fill someone's world with pain if ticked off.

Have to disagree on Wonder Woman, I think she looks awesome. Also, I love the fact that the previews are not doing the usual linger butt and boob shots. Oh and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Vol 2 is excellent!

Not a movie that I have seen, yet, but it seems as reasonable to put this here as any place else. I received a Facebook notification this evening that "Peter Jackson has updated his cover photo."

I'm not sure what it is, but it looks pretty amazing [edit: it is concept art from the adaptation of "Mortal Engines" which he is co-writing and producing, and is being directed by Christian Rivers]:

Right away I thought, wow, that looks kinda like a scene from LOTR!

He was also supposed to do a movie about the Dambusters, an update of the one from the '50, using new information that was recently declassified. Would REALLY like to see that, but haven't heard anything about it, since before the Hobbit movies were still struggling to get off the ground.

Wonder Woman! It definitely had some weaknesses - it felt like both the script and the visuals could use a good bit more polish - but there was something about it, some genuine sense of heart you don't often find in these movies, that made it easy to overlook those flaws. She's a wonderful character.

Don't get me wrong they're good movies but overindulgent and bogged down in their own portentous gravitas. And Dark Knight is the worst of the three once you get past Ledgers superb Joker.

Dark Knight Rises was such a disappointment.

Has anyone seen the new Pirates of the Caribbean? I considered going to see it at our local theater / pub, because I love their burgers, but now Wonder Woman opened and I think I'll see that instead.

I remember watching The Dark Knight with a friend. Her comment when the closing credits started to roll was "I'm not sure I'd want to watch this a second time."

I agreed with her.

After much resistance on my part, my son sat me down and coerced me into watching Guardians of the Galaxy (the first one).

I loved it! I hadn't seen any trailers or film summaries so I had mistakenly assumed this was a movie that took itself seriously and, to be honest, I've never been into the Marvel comics brought to life thing. So I was so very pleasantly surprised to find it a superhero spoof.

I should know better by now than to reject my son's film recommendations. We're gonna watch GotG2, and we're going together to see Wonder Woman.

My son is a lot of fun.

Yeah, I liked GotG, too, and I will probably see GotG2 when it comes out on DVD. I may go see Wonder Woman in the theatre because Sarah really wants to.

Delighted you enjoyed it, but Guardians of the Galaxy is not really a spoof. Comic adaptations come in all different tones. Deadpool is famous for breaking the fourth wall, Batman is dark, Superman is (or should be) optimistic, and GotG is meant to be fun. That's how the comics were written. The movies are just faithful to that.

And Lali, go see Wonder Woman. Just go. Unashamedly idealistic and genuinely "feelgood" without being schmaltzy.

Yes, spoof is not the word. But it does poke fun at the superhero archetype in a really gentle way and lets them poke fun at themselves. Having never read the comics, I can't comment at all on how faithfully it abides by the spirit of the original, but it's certainly the kind of comic book adaptation that can be enjoyed by people who are not fans of the comic (and "comic book" strikes me as the wrong term; there's nothing comic about the genre as a whole)
