This new movie starring Robert Redford (and only Robert Redford), is quite worthwhile. Please, please, please do not read what follows unless and until you have seen the film (nor respond to it without spoiler tags):

Spoiler: show
This film is the absolute definition of eucatastrophe.

Discuss.

Agreed through and through. It's a film that is equally devastating and uplifting.

I put your comment behind spoiler tags because I think even that gives away too much.

As I've told you before, I don't go to a lot of films, and the only reason I went this one was that I was visiting my Mom and she wanted to see it (and she had already seen Gravity). It was almost too intense at times, but the title really does say it all. He had to reach the point of completely losing all hope before he could be rescued.

I thought it was brilliant that they keep him so completely anonymous. The only small hint as to who he was the child's shoe that you see in the boat's cabin in the beginning.

Are the tags still needed?

I don't have it any more to double check, but I thought the shoe washed in from the hole in the crate.

Also, I thought it was (deliberately) unclear whether
Spoiler: show
he was actually rescued or whether the last moments were some sort of death metaphor
.

I saw it today and I saw the entire movie as a metaphor for aging.

Anyone else not seeing spoiler tags any more?

How weird! They seem to be still working in other threads.

ETA: I hit edit and then submit in each post that has a spoiler and now they are back.
