Why no middle ground, soli: "Let him obey the law, go into court, and take his chances"?
“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”

The man raped a 13 year old girl, and because this was in the days when it was still the norm to hide the victim's identity by letting the rapist off with a slap on the wrist (does that still frequently happen?), and he was rich and famous, he was going to get away with it.
The fact that he is still trying to manipulate the system to avoid facing justice and anyone would support him makes a complete joke of our justice system.
Honestly I don't know why anyone would need the supposed "middle ground" option. His guilt is not in question.
Prison is too good for him.

A lot of rapes never get reported. And a lot of rapes never get taken seriously, although the treatment of rape victims has improved over the years. Rather old article, but these issues are still live five years later:halplm wrote:The man raped a 13 year old girl, and because this was in the days when it was still the norm to hide the victim's identity by letting the rapist off with a slap on the wrist (does that still frequently happen?),

His guilt is not in question (to me), therefore I support a prison sentence.Honestly I don't know why anyone would need the supposed "middle ground" option. His guilt is not in question.
Which does not appear on the poll.
Yet.
