I agree with you Jewel. In fact I've already seen a stage production of Lord of the Rings. Granted it left out a lot but it was at least an hour shorter than this production will be. It was a production by the Canadian "Theatre Sans Fils" Company using a mixture of puppetry and live actors...

Although I enjoy the Silmarillion I ache at what it might have been. I wish with all my heart that the full Quenta could have been as fully expanded as it was in the narratives in "Unfinished Tales". It's only there that we see the Silmarillion written in the narrative style of Lord of the...

I'd be willing to join in on this and perhaps see if the male perspective is any different to the female. I think I have a copy somewhere.

Hobby, it's simple enough. You get an MP3 ripper. I use CDEx or Windows Media Player 10. I would recommend CDEx as it's freeware and the default settings are perfect so there is no need to mess with anything before ripping. You put in your CD and let the titles get downloaded from the internet (assu...

I spent some time installing instrumentation on Oil Rigs in the North Sea and elsewhere. When a rig is being worked on or commissioned the staffing level is higher than the accomodation available on the rig. As a result there are mobile platforms called Flotels which are secured to the stationary Ri...

Although I have little to say on this, not having read the passage in question, I do find it very interesting. I hope that Voronwë might consider giving us a guided tour of some of the more interesting sections of the History of Middle Earth. The 10 volumes that I own have hardly been opened, but wh...

In fairness Jnyusa, all the people who contributed to the discussion on B77 are now here. I'd rather not have the discussion split so I'll just point the old one over here.

Tolkien and Irish Mythology - A Study

Hi All, I've decided to move this discussion here because some of the main contributors are uncomfortable posting in the original location. I haven't moved the whole thread, just the main cognitive thread. I was discussing old Irish legends with TrueHobbit and I referred to the story of Cuchulainn. ...

I've posted this before, but in this thread and this season it seems particularly apt. My favourite poem of all time. The first Christmas album I remember was a Perry Como album. That silky smooth voice was just perfect. Nat King Cole is probably my favourite crooner but Perry Como was my first. Nowadays we always play the double CD "Best Chritmas Album in the World Ever" when we're decorating. One of my ...

Voronwë, this is a fascinating post. I have something to say, though I am afraid it is not as responsive as your post deserves ... but this is where my thoughts take me at the moment. The Shibboleth is a symbol of language as a divider. But language is how we communicate with each other, one way we...

True insight - but not the reason Tolkien wished them to be published together, I think. IMO he had much more humble and human reasons - he didn't think The Silmarillion had a chance for publication unless on the coat-tails of LoTR because he knew it would not get the popular vote. My impression wa...
