Re: Myers-Briggs, redux

Mr. Anth is an ESTP. In other words, everything opposite from me. And I'm crazy about him.

Re: Myers-Briggs, redux

But it was in a book! It must be true! :salmon: *whops self with fish* I find this vaguely disconcerting. It's not like people have a physical, objective type that one can discover, like a secret tattoo. I do see a value in observing people and noticing if they are more likely to respond to ...

Re: Myers-Briggs, redux

It’s interesting returning to this thread after a decade. I was one of the early and passionate advocates of the MBTI on these forums, and while I still believe it’s broadly correct in principle I only think about it rarely these days. The main reason, I think, is that in the last ten years I’ve ha...

I've not heard it either. Perhaps I am a wannabe Canadian? (who isn't?!)

Re: 2016 United States Election

That post gels with the kind of thing I've been reading about the Donald Trump campaign, that the money isn't exactly streaming in. I think he's going to lose, and he's going to lose big. If he's farting around about how much money is coming in, that's because he's trying to seem more popular than ...

Re: Gun Control Debate

Prim, Anthy, Wait. Before I get to your longer message - did Mr. S sit in readiness in case he was called on to defend the party? With his gun? I thought he was watching the grill or something! That kind of vigilance does not seem necessary outside of an active war zone! Or was I write the fi...

Re: 2016 United States Election

I have several women friends who are going to vote for Trump. I have carefully asked them why ( in the world? I say to myself ) they would think he would be a good choice. Most of it seems to have to do with someone finally being "strong" and not being caught in "political correctness...

Re: Gun Control Debate

I'm just glad your dinner worked out. I've been in situations (not necessarily on the gun topic) where I'm so on guard whether it's religion, politics, what-have-you, that it's hard to enjoy yourself. Isn't that the truth. My own mother and I have many "off-limit" subjects. That makes me ...

Re: 2016 United States Election

I don't think Sander's religious convictions ARE a campaign issue, even now. The issue is that email correspondence showed top officials at the supposedly neutral DNC favored Clinton over Sanders in the presidential primaries. And wrote emails to others within the organization (whether acted upon or...

Re: 2016 United States Election

And having reread that, I reveal myself to be a very bad flagbearer for the Southern Baptist or evangelical. I clearly didn't know the fact that being an atheist would be "worse" than being Jewish to Southern evangelicals, otherwise I would have remembered the quote a bit better. Personall...

Re: Gun Control Debate

Point taken, Anthy. There is no way to know the intent of someone breaking into your house, or even someone approaching you on a city street. I was over reacting to the pro gun people who do say they are justified in shooting anyone who steps on their property, regardless of motive, and will even s...

Re: 2016 United States Election

The religious angle on Sanders is just depressing. Not surprising, given how national level candidates are pretty much expected to parade their religiosity, but depressing. And I speak as one of the scummy atheists. Yeah, the quote about bringing up Sander's religion in the South went something lik...

Re: 2016 United States Election

Yes. That was sickening. It should have been a bigger issue, but the lines of decency have been stretched so far, for so long, this campaign season that things like this are getting passes that should not. Isn't THAT just the sad truth. If anyone had the conviction that the DNC was really not tryin...

Re: Gun Control Debate

Goodness gracious what an awful experience. I'm glad you (and your doggie) were OK. If you'd had a gun, would you have used it? They say that in such situations a gun is often taken from the 'owner' and used against them, which is horrible. Probably not to defend myself . (Nor to save the TV ;)) I ...

Re: 2016 United States Election

I'm not particularly surprised that the DNC was supporting Clinton rather than, well, anyone else. I have a sneaking suspicion that 2016 was supposed to be hers, based on deals made in 2008 when she was facing Obama. Hilary is a tough opponent, and my jaundiced heart has felt that deals were made th...

Re: Gun Control Debate

Thank God you're so terrifying, Anthy! As traumatic as that absolutely was, though, if you'd had a gun handy, you might have killed him. I have to imagine that that would be a heavy burden. (And of course, if you'd hesitated he might have taken it from you and killed you.) Which is sort of ...

It's got more density. Anth, I wouldn't be underestimating what you could do with a baseball bat. But, anyway, it sounds like you did an adequate job just by going into banshee mode. I'm sorry that happened. But remember...he was the one who ended up running away. I'm so glad he did! I was QU...
