I would, for example include 'words' or 'wordsmith' in a description of axordil, for example.. 'What' he is, is a writer.. but it is also part of who he is.. a lover of words. And I am an engineer, whether I'm employed or not. It is a way of seeing the world as a fascinating puzzle and a challenge,...

Anyway.. getting back to the topic.. when I hear 'Who are you' to sum it up in a word it would be 'essence'. What is the essence of a person.. which seldom can be summed up in one word, but is a conglomerate of all those things that make us tick as individuals.. our passions and loves, the things w...

Who am I? Good question. And a difficult one to answer.. but I know it when I see it.. or feel it.. or hear or taste it. There are times when I hear a song.. and it speaks to such a deep part of my being that it is difficult to separate myself (who I am) from it. The same for a particular scene or ...

I sometimes think facing our mortality makes us all the more alive.. all the more wondering what else we've yet to do.. would like to do.. or see.. or be, or say. I would think, to be like Tolkien's elves.. faced with countless years might make years seem a bit less precious, knowing that there is ...

It's odd (to me) because "faith" means that you believe something without proof and yet, many folks cling to these items as strongly as they cling to their faith. I would agree that religion is a matter of faith. Even if an 'ark-like' boat were found, how could it be proved that it was No...

ahahahaha..

I'm sorry.. I'm not laughing at you being separated from your love.. it just makes the little 'misfires and pops & such' in this conversation all the more humorous. I can well guess what Freud would say. ;)

Lalaith.. I got it.. I thought it was funny (very funny) but, as I do not know this company well.. I refrained from commenting so as to not offend, as I was given a proverbial finger shaking earlier today.

SirDennis, my purpose was/is not to sway you one way or another. This is a discussion about crazy things & religion. Many people are unaware that there is much in literature pre-dating Christ with similar miracles/wording/events etc.. This does not necessarily invalidate biblical text. I think ...

There have been at least 16 crucified saviors throughout history. Many with miraculous births. Many who were called the 'Bread of life' or the 'Lamb of God' or 'The light of the world', etc.. .. many of these pre-dating Christ. I suppose that can be taken many ways.. the manifestation of one 'god' ...

And you know what people? Not everyone knows who Freddie Mercury was and ignorance of him is not indicative of anything except, perhaps, a disinterest in popular music. Expressing shock/horror/disbelief when someone doesn't know something and then NOT GIVING THEM the information is kinda...I don't ...

Historically speaking, many, many 'gods' were born from virgin mothers. It's tradition. And a widely held one especially in ancient near-eastern religions, Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, just for examples.

In fact, the social pressure in the US is definitely to at least identify as believing in something, even if you don't go to church. You should see the looks I get whenever the subject comes up. I just kind of laugh and say, "Oh, no, I'm not a Christian, and never have been." Sometimes th...

River, I agree with you.. but I am surrounded by young Earth creationists who feel differently. I think Creationism versus Evolution is such a huge issue to Creationists because, well.. I don't quite understand how it makes sense to them.. but it is politically important (to them) because they tie ...

SirDennis, good post. When I was very young.. (1960's) I believe it was more common for social justice issues, caring for the poor, etc.. and being a good steward of resources to be viewed as being equated with Christianity, Peace corps, etc.. etc.. although it was not the cohesive extreme politica...

Oh.. and I'm pretty certain there is quite a bit about taking care of the poor in the bible.. which is in keeping with social justice.. you know.. taking care of the sick, the hungry, thirsty, naked and all that.. you know.. 'So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you..'

Thanks for the link to the 'Tea in Tolkien's 'The Hobbit'' I'm enjoying that! I've made my own yogurt before.. which.. although putzy it's really quite simple. SO I looked up to see if I could find a recipe for clotted cream. How Did This Clotted Cream Recipe Compare to Store-Bought Clotted Cream? ...
