Why can't they just let the story be the story?? People just have to meddle! :D:D Well, some of us would argue that the original story was flawed, and that the musical was an improvement! You need to grab Alatar and drag him in here when he gets back on Friday - he's much more eloquent on this poin...

Actually, legalizing it could actually reduce organized crime. And as such, I would be in favour of it.

I was told once, and I have nothing to back this up, that the Matthew Passion was never intended to be performed in one go.

This makes sense to me - it is, after all, divided into a Part One and a Part Two, each of which would make a perfectly proportioned evening's listening.

In the commentary to Fellowship of the Ring, at the first appearance of Gollum, Jackson says "we've changed the look for Gollum, and may redo this scene for a later release".

Which epilogue are you referring to, Alatar?

A lot of clothing that claims to be "made in the USA" is also made offshore in the worst possible working conditions. There are a number of US territories in Asia - most notably the Marianas and Marshall Islands - where clothing is produced under third world conditions and labeled "M...

I shouldn't have said "way too vague" - being vague helps to initiate a discussion, but on the other hand it doesn't help me choose a poll option! If you asked, "Do you believe in the biblical God", I would have voted an emphatic "no". :) But if you asked, "Do you ...

Just out of curiosity, are there more people that would participate if they could get their hands on a recording? There's lots of wonderful humor in Magic Flute. :D Warning: There's also lots of really, really bad humour in the Magic Flute - luckily, most of those lines get cut from modern performan...

Whoa - lots of responses since I disappeared! :) For inexpensive recordings, you can't go to far wrong with the Naxos label; they've issued a recording with singers that I've never heard of, but I'm sure are competent. In the Naxos Historical series, there's an old one (1937) with Toscanini conducti...

Group listening of "The Magic Flute"? (Die Zauberf

Well - we have group readings, why not a group listening? I'd also be very interested in people that don't normally listen opera taking part. The Magic Flute was Mozart's last or second-last opera, depending on whether you go by composition date of first performance. Technically, it's not an opera a...

Is that Lake Louise, Eruname? The reflections are just beautiful! Yes, looks like it. And even though the mountain looks like it's right behind it, I can tell you from experience that it's a 6-hour hike away! (I wasn't prepared for that when I set out on it) The mountain behind it is Mt. Victoria, ...
