Re: The last movie you saw Thread
I watched a movie called "45 Years" on the plane ride back to Zambia. It was very different; a 2015 British romantic drama film directed and written by Andrew Haigh. Less than 100 minutes long, it concerns a couple getting ready to celebrate their 45 wedding anniversary when they get some ...

Re: 2016 United States Election
Trump will get the nomination and, IMHO, he deserves it.
Whether he is the best candidate is another matter. But he obviously has the voting public's support. So - give him the nomination and let the chips fall where they may.

Re: Harriet Tubman will be on the $20 bill
I thought River's comment was meant in light jest. I didn't think it was snarky or rude or any of those other things! Bottom line is that most people in the USA ARE familiar with Harriet Tubman and what she did...and did over the course of many years. I think it is interesting (but not altogether su...

Re: Prayer Thread
Hi, everyone. Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers! I am slowly returning to (what passes for) normal, although I still feel a bit fuzzy. Thank God this happened when it did and not, say, in transit at the Dubai airport! Diagnosis is indeed "Transient Global Amnesia" which seems to...

Re: Prayer Thread
It is important, but I think further discussion like this should be in another thread...and let's keep this one for prayers!

Re: 2016 United States Election
I’m not actually persuaded that many conservative Republicans would have found Trump’s original position extreme, whatever certain commentators may have said. I don’t find it extreme myself – it is consistent with what I understand the pro-life position to be. I have no idea why he backtracked. I t...

Re: The last movie you saw Thread
I saw "The Martian" during my plane trip out to Bangkok. Loved it. I thought that it was really well done and captured both the humor and the tension of the book (which was a page-turner, for me.)

Teremia, I am jealous beyond words.
I'll be in NYC in June and I am going to try for the ticket lottery.

2016 United States Election
You know, Cerin, I didn't think you and I had had enough dialogue for you to make such a strong assertion about how "aggravating" I am. As far as I recall, I have tried to be as respectful as possible when responding to you, even when I vehemently disagree with you. If the fact that I migh...

Re: 2016 United States Election
Jewel, sometimes you can be so aggravating. We have something in common, then... ;) It seems to me that you are really splitting hairs (or making excuses) for Trump. Many of the things you describe as "evil" are things he has said or encouraged. Yet for some reason, you do not want to hol...

Re: 2016 United States Election
Maybe it would be helpful, then, to define the word "evil." Cerin, you seem to have a different definition than the some of the rest of us. Would you give an example of something you *would* consider to be "evil" in the context of this discussion? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Re: 2016 United States Election
In principle, I agree with you, Cerin. Although I think Trump is a reprehensible human being, I find it far more concerning that so many people are eagerly buying into what he is selling. This is a first-person account by a young man who, with a friend, decided to attend a Trump rally, thinking it m...

I think Cruz is absolutely terrifying.Lalaith wrote: (I am not sure who is scarier as the nominee, though—Cruz or Trump!)
I just posted this on my Facebook page - it pretty much sums up why.

Re: 2016 United States Election
I find Trump to be bizarre and unpredictable. Cruz I simply think is frightening. Neither of them is fit to be President of the local Dog-Catchers Union, much less the United States. (In my opinion, of course. And no insult to dog-catchers intended.)

IAWC. And I was going to post about it, but she beat me to it. I find statements such as "Anyone who thinks *X* must be *Y*" to be both simplistic and insulting in general.
Surely there is a better way to make your point.
