My thoughts on Book IV: The rope scene was too light-hearted for me, coming just as the Emyn Muil was becoming a more depressing place. Sam wondering whether he and Frodo would be mentioned in the “old tales” did not work at all. It has too much of an “end-of-film” feeling to it and, without Sam’s s...

I didn't know that.

If he'd been talking about Lord of the Rings (or something else Middle-earth related) I'd have probably been disappointed that I wasn't able to attend the lecture.

This was so different from Peter Jackson’s movies that I enjoyed it a lot more than the first two “Books”. It was rushed but I no longer had the feeling of using the skip/fast-forward button. Jumping straight into Boromir’s last stand didn’t work for me: there should’ve been more build-up to it such...

I have been recently wondering about Radagast and this bit of info turns up! Not that it gives much information about why they're including him. My theory is that he'll help to explain how the characters communicate with the thrush and raven.

I going with Elven-King's Halls as well. The way those pillars open out, almost like a flower, seems more appropriate for the Elves of Mirkwood than the Dwarves. I also recall the design team on the extended edition extras/commentaries talking about how they only used straight lines for the Dwarven ...

My thoughts on Book II ... Seeing all of the Isengard scenes in one go as a flashback really changed the feel of them. I think that cavern montage should’ve been taken out and it probably wasn’t necessary to keep the Wizard Duel either (it works in “real time” but not as a flashback). I didn’t like ...

I'm guessing Bofur (James Nesbitt's character) is going to be quite a vocal Dwarf. He and Fili. Yes, although the actors were quite different in their "vocalness". Rob Kazinsky (Fili) seemed to have more of a "take-charge" attitude to him compared to Nesbitt, who seemed more abo...

Smaug might "die" in film one yet still return for film two.

Anyway, I agree with BuckledCranium, for the most part. The politics of the Elf-Men-Dwarf situation offers more scope for expansion than, say, the Trolls or Spiders.

The songs/poetry from The Hobbit might not be sung/recited in the equivalent part of the movie or even by the same person as in the book. (I am looking forward to hearing them though, Howard Shore and the actors did a good job with the poetry/songs in LotR.) Full media conference video now up on 3ne...

The reason for cutting Jackson's cameo was simply because he was one of the "scary looking inhabitants" and Kerr was attempting to make Bree slightly more friendly, as in the book. No offense was intended towards PJ. I can understand and accept that (I had assumed that he cut PJ for some ...

No?!

I think a talking purse would be a great comic opportunity, especially if voiced by, say, Robin Williams or Jim Carrey. ;)

Very good Prim! Much better than Voronwë's hastily scribbled answers on the back of an envelope.

After consulting my book, I do have another question. Will there be a talking purse?

I've been watching this Red Book edit (seen most of the "Books" now) and thought I'd post up a few thoughts as well: Even though I vastly prefer the Prologue, I did enjoy the narration of the Ring poem. However, it felt disconnected from the rest of the film as if it was a prelude to the a...

I think it is more of an issue of how to show him be invisible for long stretches of important time. That's exactly the issue I was wondering about (the technical aspect of it as axordil mentioned). I'm concerned that the "wraith-world", if done the same as the LotR films, will look so bl...

I'll be interested to see how they handle the "wraith-world" when Bilbo is wearing the Ring. Is it going to be as blurry and dark as it is in the LotR films? I would say the "actual answer" is that the ring wasn't the One Ring in The Hobbit . As for the "not fully activated&...

It was this little snippet of information from TheOneRing.net (along with the news that Hugo Weaving hasn't been cast) that got me thinking that Rivendell sequence would be cut. ... Some additional ramblings from me: I also took a LOTR tour in Wellington, no activity on the Rivendell Set in Kaitoke ...
