Re: If Lord of the Rings was made Today
Some are just comparing it unfavorably to the trilogy. Not that I like the trilogy.

Re: Colourblind Casting
Well, Middle-earth, Arda or however you call it is already multicultural or multi-ethnic or multiracial or however you call it from the Men alone. It's just the trademark fantasy races, the Elves, Dwarves, and Hobbits getting that makeover that bothers me. Because it was unnecessary due to the above...

Re: Colourblind Casting
Should the producers alter his world to fit a modern sensibility? I mean it already happened ages ago with the live action movies, but https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBS8WYKYggA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTlgotBnW_A I get that they have every right to do what they want, they're in control. I...

Re: Vanity Fair article on Amazon's Lord of the Rings series
Besides all that... someone has to say it. There go the hopes for a nuanced, senstive lore-friendly treatment of the Southrons and Easterlings because of the casting shortcuts. Fixing what wasn't broken. The new names feel uninspired. Bronwyn is a real name derived from Welsh Branwen. No relation to...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
As I feared/suspected, they're doing what is easy instead of what is right. There are ways to focus on or feature "non-white" characters while staying consistent with the lore which has many options, like leaning into the Blue Wizards' activities since they possibly came as early as the Se...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
I don't mean to rip on it unnecessarily, it just feels a bit weird to see the super-mythic elements within the same "grounded" lens as the movies. I take all of this with a huge grain of salt, although Cliff Broadway ("Quickbeam") was a pretty reliable sources back in the day. Sp...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
So that is how they envision a flat earth without sun and moon? One thing to read about it and another to see it in live-action. It doesn’t feel right in live-action because you know the earth is and has always been round. I wish he’d finished the round world version of the stories.

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
In addition, some forms of storytelling would simply not carry the same weight with Aragorn as a protagonist as people already know his fate; picture multiple scenes of young Estel in grave danger – all these scenes would potentially be bereft of tension. ...maybe that's why The Hobbit films kind o...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
Hold on, is this in movie canon or not? It seems to be, given PJ's involvement. But if it is, Aragorn has no reason to journey far and wide and serve in other lands. He was never challenged by Elrond to be worthy of the kingship in order to marry Arwen, and he doesn't want to be king at all until Ar...

"All that is gold does not glitter" could be treated as a trust-password at the inn. --- (Gandalf's voice reads the letter aloud, he is shown writing it) G: I hope Butterbur sends this promptly. A worthy man, but his memory is like a cellar: thing wanted always buried. If he forgets, I sha...

Re: Lord of the Rings series!?
In recent news, Amazon is also planning to make a Conan the Barbarian series based on the original 1930s pulp stories, unconnected to the Schwarzenegger movies. They also released a series about the Roman conquest of Britain a while back, called Britannia . So I checked it out... and gave up after o...

People can be wrong. He wasn't before, but he is now. 8) Also, it's bad form not to put up a united front, especially when it's about your film that's still in theaters. For instance, the director of the newest Fantastic Four movie complained about studio interference on social media. Now he can't g...

Re: Star Wars, Episode VIII
Not gonna see this film after the last one made the original series, let alone the prequels, utterly pointless for absolutely no believable reason (except cynical nostalgia money). And from everything I've heard, this just reinforces it. Talk about beating a dead horse, they went further and butcher...
